What we fund
A small library does a surprising amount of work. It lends musical instruments. And STEAM kits. And dementia kits, and backpacks for the state parks. It runs story time and chair yoga and a seed swap and a genealogy class. It is a warm room with fast internet for anyone who needs one. None of that is free, and county budgets are county budgets. That gap is what we exist to close.
Technology
New computers. Internet access. And an on-site technology assistant we sponsor - a real person, on a schedule, who will sit with you and sort out your laptop, your phone, or whatever the printer is doing. Thousands of people use the library's wireless every year. Some of them need a hand.
Summer reading
We underwrite the Youth Summer Reading Program. It runs every year, and it is the single most reliable thing standing between a Rappahannock kid and three months of not reading anything.
Programs
Story time. STEAM. Puppet shows. A petting zoo. Author events. Book club. Chair yoga and tai chi. Senior art classes. Genealogy. A seed swap.
Materials
We supplement the collection budget - the books, audiobooks, and digital titles that go out the door tens of thousands of times a year.
Repairs and grounds
Emergency HVAC repairs. Lighting upgrades. Landscaping and grounds. Nobody puts a heat pump on a fundraising poster. It still has to work in February.
